Lifeline Direct, Specialist and Targeted Services & Counselling operate 24/7 to provide vital suicide prevention, mental health, and counselling support. We offer free, professional help to individuals in need, leveraging technology to reach people effectively since 1960. Our services include some of Australia’s most essential free helplines, such as MensLine Australia, Suicide Call Back Service, SuicideLine Victoria, and various PHN services.

Driven by our purpose to prevent suicide and support those in need, we are dedicated to providing professional mental health and counselling services around the clock. We are committed to changing and saving lives every day.

Counselling roles in the Specialist Targeted Services team

As a counsellor with Lifeline, you will be part of our Specialist and Targeted Services (STS) team, delivering funded counselling services through both single and multisession formats while adhering to ethical and legal standards. Your role will include:

· Providing professional, specialist counselling remotly via telephone, webchat and video modalities. As well as face-to-face from select Lifeline Centres.

· Managing risk and offering ongoing support options to clients.

· Engaging with clients to build resilience, foster healthy relationships, and connect them with community support.

· Single and multisession counselling sessions

Our roles offer an opportunity for career progression within the organisational structure, including opportunities to skill to different specialty services and advancement to positions such as Clinical Specialist, Lead Counsellor, or Clinical Manager.

Hourly rates and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award and EBA, including evening, overnight and weekend penalty rates.

At STS & Counselling, you’ll make a significant impact through your work, providing expert support across various areas, including suicide prevention, trauma-informed care, mental health, men’s mental health, relationships and family violence. Our team consists of qualified counsellors, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals dedicated to delivering compassionate and effective support.
