Lifeline’s new Singleton Shop was officially opened by Mayor on July 26

Singleton mayor, Cr Sue Moore, joined Lifeline’s regional general manager Julie Wicks to officially open Lifeline’s new shop in John Street Singleton.

The shop opened its doors on July 19. Newly appointed shop manager Cheryl Weston said local people are both donating and coming in to buy quality, pre-loved, goods and help fund local suicide prevention services. Items include bric-a-brac, fashion, manchester, and books.

Ms Weston has lived in Singleton for four years, moving from Canberra. She said she sees the shop and the role as a great way to give back to the community that has supported and welcomed her.

“I love retailing, and surprising and delighting customers,” Ms Weston said.

“Funds raised from shops and community donations help us to deliver the 13 11 14 crisis line phone service as well as other community programs"

People wishing to donate goods or to volunteer should call Lifeline on 1300 152 854.

On hearing of the plans for a Lifeline shop in Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said it would complement other services available in the community.

She said Lifeline is always there for people in times of crisis, and she recognises the need for its services in regional areas.

“I am confident the people of Singleton will get behind Lifeline’s new shop and continue to donate and support its life-saving work,” Cr Moore said.

Lifeline has seven other shops in the Hunter – in Cardiff, Hamilton North, Maitland, Nelson Bay, Raymond Terrace, Toronto, and Wallsend. It will open shops in Tamworth and Armidale in the coming months.
