This June, Lifeline New England North West is inviting people across the region to push for better mental health by taking part in Australia’s largest mental health and fitness event, The Push-Up Challenge.

Now in its tenth year, the challenge sees participants complete 3,307 push-ups from 3 to 26 June, to remember and honour the 3,307 lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2024.

The Push-Up Challenge brings together physical activity, mental health education and community connection. In 2026, more than 200,000 Australians of all ages and abilities are expected to take part nationwide.

Participants complete daily push-up targets while learning key facts about mental health, helping to build awareness, reduce stigma and encourage conversations about wellbeing. The number of push-ups changes each day to reflect an important mental health statistic.

Funds raised through the challenge support Lifeline’s crisis support and suicide prevention services, helping ensure people in the New England North West can access help when they need it most.

The Push-Up Challenge has grown significantly since its inception, with 2025 marking the biggest year in the event’s history. The 2026 challenge celebrates ten years of Australians coming together to support better mental health outcomes across the country.

Lifeline New England North West is encouraging individuals, families, workplaces, local businesses, gyms, sporting clubs and schools to register and take part as part of Team Lifeline New England North West.

What if I can’t do push-ups?

If completing 3,307 push-ups feels out of reach, participants can set their own push-up goal, which can also be done as sit-ups, squats or tailored exercises, with progress tracked through a dedicated app. We want everyone to feel the challenge is accessible, so we can all work together to push for better mental health in our region.
