Walk at a time and place that works for you

One of the questions we hear most often is: "What if there's no walk in my area?"

The great thing about Out of the Shadows Walk is that participation is not limited by location.

As a virtual event, you can take part from virtually anywhere across Australia and around the world.

Whether you live in a major city, regional town, rural community or overseas, you can walk with us.

Choose your own location

Your walk can happen wherever feels meaningful to you:

  • Around your local neighbourhood.
  • Along a bushwalking trail.
  • At your favourite beach.
  • Through a local park.
  • Around a sporting oval.
  • Anywhere that suits your circumstances and fitness level.

Many participants choose places that hold special memories or provide an opportunity for quiet reflection.

Walk alone or together. The choice is yours!

Some people prefer a personal, reflective experience, while others enjoy walking alongside family, friends, colleagues or community groups.

If you'd like company, keep an eye on local walk listings and community events as details become available throughout the campaign. You can also connect though the Out of the Shadows Facebook page – participants from across the country, actively sharing their stories and walk locations.

You can also create your own team and invite others to join you.

Make it your own

There is no single "right way" to take part.

Some participants wear matching team shirts. Others dedicate their walk to someone special. Some use their walk to start conversations about mental health within their community.

What matters most is showing up, taking part, and helping shine a light on suicide prevention.

Walk with us this September

On or around World Suicide Prevention Day, 10th September thousands of Australians will be walking together, even when they're physically apart.

Wherever you are, we'd love to have you join us.
